Mineral oil-based plastics released into the environment cause lasting damage to the biosphere over many generations. A sensible solution to avoid the steadily increasing global uncontrolled distribution of macro- as well as microplastics is to produce consumer goods on the basis of renewable raw materials: Impulse project 6 in the LaNDER³ joint project is dedicated to researching processes for the production of completely biodegradable everyday and disposable products. The investigations take into account both sustainable aspects, such as the use of residual biomass and complete biodegradation at the end of the product life cycle, and economic aspects, such as the development of production processes and plant technology that are suitable for the mass market and economical. The project thus also has an impulse-giving character for regional SMEs.
Objective: The objective of the impulse project is to develop suitable technologies for biodegradable everyday and disposable products and to bring them to market maturity in cooperation with regional companies. Scientifically, the topic is to be developed into a key competence of the LaNDER³ partnership in the long term.
